Clovis Swimmers Begin Long Course Season in Merced

Kacy Ota

Long Course Season has started! It began at UC Merced Pool on April 26th and 27th. Clovis Swim Club had 34 athletes compete in this meet that was attended by Teams from all over Central California as well as Monterey Bay Swim Club and PASA. Clovis was represented by Leopard Shark, Mako Shark, Tiger Shark, Pre-Senior, and Senior Swimmers.

Clovis Swimmers competed in 172 races over the weekend and recorded 115 New nest times and First Time Swims. That is close to a 67% Improvement Rate for the swim club. There were many New Time Standards achieved at the meet. National Motivational Time Standards are Times created based off of percentiles of all the swims swam in the nation for their respective age groups over a four-year time period. They are represented with the B time as the entry level Time Standard, followed by the BB, A, AA, AAA, and the AAAA places a swimmer in the 98th percentile (or the Top 2%) in the nation. These Time Standards can be found on the Clovis Swim Club website under the Team Info drop down menu.

New Time Standards Achieved at the meet:

B Times:

Bailey Aguilar-Marin, Ivy Coleman, Kade Deniz, Amber Donlon, Alejandra Garvin, Cooper Jones, Chirsty Konecko, Natalyhn Ko, Matthew Lai, Liam McBrearty, Clara Weaver, and Addia Watson

BB Times:

Cali Coleman, Amber Donlon, Alejandra Garvin, Cooper Jones, Christy Konecko, Elianna Massaro, Lucas Massaro, Brooke Mize, Trey Rojas, Conrad Shwe, Clara Weaver, Mack Waelty, and Breya Watson

A Times:

Cali Coleman, Cooper Jones, Lucas Massaro, Brooke Mize, and Mack Waelty

AA Times:

Gracyn Crough, Lucas Massaro, Trey Rojas, and Mack Waelty

Long Course Season continues through the Summer and culminates for many of our Age Group Swimmers at the Renee and Jim Patterson Classic on July 16th – 20th at Clovis North. Some of these swimmers will represent Central California Swimming on an All-Star team in Elk Grove in early August.

For Long Course swimming, do not worry about converting times. Conversions are estimated times that mean very little. If the equation to convert was accurate, it would probably need to take speed of the athlete into account. So, look for your improvement from last Long Course Season. First Time Swims are always exciting. Growth in the sport includes increasing the amount of events a swimmer is capable to do at a level to compete.

The Next Meet will be the Mike Snyder Memorial Meet being held at Clovis West on Memorial Day Weekend. Clovis will be looking for a great showing of athletes competing at the meet.
